She may not have been able to alter the course of the wind, but Rucheka Jain certainly adjusted her sails to extend a helping hand to the earthquake-ravaged victims of Nepal. Rucheka, a remarkable young girl with a heart of gold and an abundance of courage, took it upon herself to make a significant impact on this noble cause.

At just 16 years old, Rucheka was a student in the 11th grade at La Martiniere for Girls School in Kolkata. Her determination to aid the victims in Nepal led her to raise an impressive fund of Rs. 40,000 by selling a series of her paintings. This act of selflessness and generosity showcased her commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by the devastating earthquake.

The culmination of Rucheka’s efforts materialized at the Hyatt Regency on April 25th, 2015, where her artwork was exhibited. This young, budding artist received crucial assistance and support in organizing this exhibition from Mr. Sundeep Bhutoria of the WFUNA Foundation. He recognized that this exhibition not only served a noble cause but also acted as a platform to promote talent and good intentions.

The exhibition garnered support from several notable individuals, including Chandra Kumar Ghimire, the Consul General of Nepal, who presented Rucheka Jain with a certificate of appreciation for her remarkable efforts. Other distinguished figures, such as Wang Xuefeng, the Consul General of China, and renowned personalities like musician Bickram Ghosh, filmmaker Anandi Ghose, and designer Agnimitra Paul, rallied behind the exhibition. Their collective contribution and commitment aimed to alleviate the suffering of Nepal’s earthquake victims, demonstrating the power of unity and compassion in times of crisis.

During the exhibition, she managed to raise an impressive sum of 4 lakh rupees through the sale of ten of her paintings. Every penny of this substantial contribution was wholeheartedly donated to the earthquake victims in Nepal.
